Why this site exists
Many guides begin with what an editor wants to explain. Japan Inbox begins one step earlier: with what a reader wants to know. Questions can be practical, cultural, surprising, or wonderfully specific. The best of them help us make a guide that is useful to more than one person.
How the inbox works
- Ask. A reader sends a question without providing an email address.
- Select. The editorial desk reviews each message privately and chooses questions that can become useful guides.
- Research. We check reliable sources, separate established facts from editorial interpretation, and write a clear English answer.
- Share. Only editor-approved questions and completed answers appear on the public site.
What readers can expect
We do not promise that every question will be selected or answered. When we do publish one, we aim to preserve the reader's intent, explain uncertainty honestly, and include sources where they help the answer stand up to scrutiny.
