Selection
We look for questions about Japan that are sincere, useful, specific enough to investigate, and suitable for a general audience. We may decline duplicates, promotional messages, requests containing personal information, or questions that cannot be answered responsibly.
Submitting a question does not guarantee selection, research, or publication.
Light editing and translation
A selected question, display name, and country or region may be lightly edited for clarity, length, spelling, privacy, or consistency. We aim to preserve the original meaning. Questions may be translated for the editorial review process, while the public article is written in clear English.
Research and sources
We favor official records, primary materials, and other reliable sources. When evidence is incomplete or when an explanation includes editorial inference, the article should say so rather than present the inference as a nationwide rule.
Publication and corrections
Questions remain private until an editor approves them. A selected question may appear in the public inbox before its full answer is published. Completed answers are added to the answer archive. We may update, clarify, or remove material when better information becomes available or when a privacy concern is identified.
